Random Thought
I want to play NHL 12 right now, but my X-Box is downstairs. And I can’t play it later because I need to sleep (I work at 9 tomorrow morning). So I guess I’ll have to play tomorrow. I’m one game into my third season with Toronto. Fresh off a second Stanley Cup. I didn’t change up my team much. I released Colton Orr to Free Agency, switched Ryan O’Reilly to center...

Trade Number Fifteen
Vancouver acquires Andrew Gordon from Anaheim for Sebastian Erixon. A depth deal. Vancouver gets a forward who will play in the minors, but who does have some NHL experience. They had to give up a decent but not great prospect in Erixon.

Trade Number Fourteen
Vancouver acquires Zack Kassian and Marc-Andre Gragnani from Buffalo for Cody Hodgson and Alex Sulzer. Buffalo gets a solid two-way center with a lot of upside, and a depth defenceman. Vancouver gets a power forward prospect with a ton of potential and a really solid offensive defenceman. This is a really good trade for both team. Canuck fans are probably shitting themselves over Hodgson, but he...

Trade Number Thirteen
Toronto acquires Mark Fraser from Anaheim for Dale Mitchell. A minor league deal. Toronto wanted another defensive defenceman to take Aulie’s place in the minors. Dale Mitchell was a spare part who was expendable.

Trade Number Twelve
The Rangers acquire John Scott from Chicago for a 5th round pick. I guess New York decided they needed another tough guy and a spare defenceman. Chances are, this guy spends the rest of the season and the playoffs in the press box. Not really sure why they even bothered.

Trade Number Ten
Boston acquires Brian Rolston and Mike Mottau from the Islanders for Yannick Riendeau and Marc Cantin. Boston wanted some tough veteran players for a Stanley Cup push and they got them. Mottau is a decent low-grade defenceman with playoff experience and Rolston can still rip the puck hard. They’ll both help Boston in their push for another Stanley Cup. New York got a couple prospects,...

Trade Number Eleven
Boston acquires Greg Zanon from Minnesota for Steve Kampfer. Another offensive defenceman to the Wild for a defensive guy. Honestly, I find it odd for a playoff bubble team to trade a defensive defenceman like Zanon, but if they’ve decided they want to power up on offense in the future, then they’ve certainly accomplished that. As for Boston, Zanon will help them in the playoffs....

Trade Number Nine
Nashville trades Paul Gaustad and a 4th round pick from the Buffalo Sabres for a 1st round pick. Nashville wanted another big center, somebody who plays well defensively and plays hard. They got that. They’re definitely gearing up for what they think will be a long playoff run. He’ll definitely help that. And Buffalo wanted to shake things up and get back a good asset, and they did...

Trade Number Eight
Chicago acquires Johnny Oduya from Winnipeg for a 2nd round pick and 3rd round pick in 2013. A necessary move for Chicago. Oduya is a solid d-man, which is what Chicago needs at the moment. He’ll help settle things down on the back end, help them go as far as they can in the playoffs and probably walk at the end of the season. A necessary move, but a solid one.

Trade Number Seven
Tampa Bay acquires Brian Lee from Ottawa for Matt Gilroy. Not much to talk about with this trade. Tampa gets rid of a 6th/7th defenceman in exhange for a another slightly-younger 6th/7th defenceman. It’s a lateral move.

Trade Number Six
Vancouver acquires Samuel Pahlsson from Columbus for a pair of 4th round picks. Good move for Vancouver. Another defence-first forward, a third line center who does chip in a bit offensively, but is really there to win face-offs, and just generally play well in his own zone. He’s a proven playoff performer, which can only help the Canucks.

Trade Number Five
San Jose acquires Daniel Winnik, T.J. Galiardi, and a 7th round pick from Colorado for Jamie McGinn, Mike Connolly, and Michael Sgarbossa. San Jose needed some gritty, fast, energy players to play on their 3rd and 4th line and kill penalties and this trade gives them that. They had to give up a gritty player in McGinn to get it, and some offensive prospects, but I think it was worth it. Winnik is...

Trade Number Four
Tampa acquires Keith Aulie from the Toronto Maple Leafs for Carter Ashton. I like this trade well enough for both teams. Toronto has a lot of defencemen, so they trade a solid defensive prospect for a big-body scoring forward prospect. This is a trade that will help both teams down the road, not right now.

Trade Number Three
Edmonton sends Tom Gilbert to the Wild in exchange for Nick Schultz. Minnesota needs more offence, Edmonton needs better defence. Schultz is a much better defender than Gilbert, so he helps Edmonton there. And Gilbert is better offensively, so he helps out Minnesota. In terms of age and contract status, they’re both in the same area, so that’s pretty much a wash. I like this trade...

Trade Number Two
Mike Commodore to Tampa Bay, a conditional 7th round pick to Detroit. Not much to say here. Detroit didn’t need Commodore and Tampa was looking for a body to dress in case they manage to swing a deal for one of their defenceman.

Trade Number One
Finally, something to do haha. Nashville gets Andrei Kostitsyn from Montreal for a 2nd round pick in 2013 and a conditional 5th round pick in 2013 (the same draft pick Montreal originally traded to Nashville in the Hal Gill trade). What can I say about this trade? Nashville needed offense, and Kostitsyn provides a little of that. Bit of a risk reuniting him with his brother, but Nashville...

NHL Trade Deadline
I’ve decided that starting tomorrow morning when I wake up, I’ll be blogging about all the trades that happen leading up to the trade deadline. It’ll give me something to do to kill time between trades. I’d start by talking about the trades that have already happened, but I’m actually working on something else at the moment. So tomorrow, check back here if...

It really is 20/20. Perfect. Everything is so clear when you’re looking back. All the things you should have done, unfortunately overshadowed by the stupid shit you did do. Or didn’t do, whatever the fuck the case is for you. I’ve known this for a long time. Forever maybe. As long as I’ve been able to look back and see my mistakes and how easily they could have been...

I had big plans for tonight. I was going to work on a new story, write another long and completely pointless post on here, and possibly watch several hours of Family Guy. But I have a headache and my back is killing me. So fuck it all, I’m going to bed. Later.

*************** Here you go, Lyra. What I got from your WCC prompt. *************** You look at him. He stares back at you. “Come on,” he says, cocking an eyebrow and smirking. “Do it. Just go ahead and do it.” You shake your head. “No! I won’t! I can’t!” “Ah, don’t be such a fucking pussy. It’ll be easy.” He lifts a hand and mimes thrusting a knife. “One quick stab, and it’ll all be over....
